The bulk of the description of Monod, in Three Design Patterns, The Cytoplasm and the Monod Cell and Monod Cultures, is independent of the implementation. While the model may be described in detail, there are possibly many different ways to implements it. In particular, we have identified certain significant parts of the implementation which we call simulation-specific algorithms, because they are particularly tied to the von Neumann architecture of the substrate of the simulation. The details of these algorithms have no relevance on the Monod model proper — since they are purely in the real of implementation — other than on performance characteristics such as performance, but they are complex enough to warrant a separate section.
